Junior Football
This fall, the Jr. Football season was a huge success. Players across grades six, seven, eight, and nine suited up for four jamborees in Lanigan, St. Brieux, Foam Lake, and Wynyard. Over the course of our five week season, the growth seen in our players was exceptional. Many cold and long days did not slow down these determined young players, and Mr. Haryett and Mr. Girolami were thrilled with the commitment and dedication these players showed. Even though there were no official scores, as the purpose of Jr. Football is developmental, if you asked our grade nine boys, who always made sure to keep score, we won a lot more games then we lost! Thank you to all the players and parents who made this season so much fun. Mr. Haryett and Mr. Girolami were very grateful to be a part of it and can’t wait to see you all in the spring!
Senior Football
The Warrior Senior football team delivered an extraordinary season, marked by dominance, grit, and memorable moments. With a perfect 6-0 record in conference play, the squad showcased their resilience, teamwork, and ability to rise to any challenge. Each victory solidified their position as the top team in the conference and earned them a well-deserved spot in provincials. Their undefeated run in conference play was a testament to their preparation, talent, and unity. Through two rounds of provincial playoffs, the offense consistently lit up the scoreboard, combining precision passing with a dynamic ground game. Meanwhile, the defense proved impenetrable in key moments, securing multiple game-changing turnovers and clutch stops. The championship game, however, was a bittersweet finale against a familiar opponent. Despite a valiant effort and moments of brilliance, the Warriors fell short of the ultimate goal. Down by a big margin at halftime, the team could have given up, but instead played their best football. The team’s spirit and determination were evident until the final whistle. The season will be remembered not only for the victories but also for the heart and resilience displayed by the players. The lessons learned and bonds forged will undoubtedly fuel future success as the Warriors look ahead with optimism and determination. This was a year to be proud of—one that sets the stage for even greater achievements to come.
Volleyball
Senior Boys Volleyball
The Senior Boys Volleyball team had an outstanding season, marking the return of the senior boys program at Wakaw School after many years. Coached by Mr. Winand, Mr. Girolami, and Mrs. Kirzinger (Viscount), the team featured 8 players from Wakaw, 1 from Cudworth, and 2 from Viscount. They worked hard and learned a lot, placing third/fourth in the league and earning a bronze finish at the LeRoy tournament. A highlight of the season was the memorable trip to the Langenburg tournament near the Manitoba border to kick off the year. Unfortunately, due to football playoffs, the team couldn’t compete in the Conference championships, but the boys showed incredible heart and progress throughout the season. We are proud of their efforts!
Junior Boys Volleyball
It was another fun season for the Wakaw Jr. Boys volleyball team in 2024. The team was coached by Mr. Ewen and Sara Korol assisted with practices. Due to football commitments, we did not enter a league. We had 11 players and competed in two tournaments, Englefeld and Kinistino, finishing runner-up at Kinistino. This year was a big step for our junior boys program as the team showed a lot of growth from previous seasons. Our season ended at pre-districts in Bellevue where we narrowly missed advancing to districts. On the whole, it was a great season!
Senior A Girls Volleyball
The Wakaw Warrior Sr. Girls Volleyball Team had an exceptional 2024 season, marked by success and growth throughout. Due to the overwhelming interest in the program, we were fortunate to have two equally competitive teams: Wakaw Black and Wakaw Maroon. The Wakaw Black travelled province-wide and out of province to gain invaluable experience along the way. Their hard work, desire, and strong mindsets were evident in the following results: a top 8 finish at the U of S Tournament, 1st at Wakaw School Home Tournament, 2nd at Lanigan’s Tournament, 1st in Moose Jaw’s Peacock Tournament, 3rd in Virden, MB, and 6th at St. Joe’s T-Cup. Marlee Michalko, Madilyn Brophy, and Mayson Michalko built strong walls at the net as middle blockers. Makenna Hackl turned the right side into a strong advantage working with Olivia Korol, our clever setter. Haddison Gaudry protected every inch of the court as our much appreciated libero. Finally, Sara Korol led the team as captain and played left side with the powerhouse of a hitter, Hannah Korol. Each player contributed a special quality that enhanced and allowed Wakaw Warrior Volleyball to reach its maximum potential, whether that was cheering and boosting the spirits of those on the court, or performing and fulfilling your job as a player. When the stakes were highest, the Warriors rallied together and delivered the best performances. Because of this, we placed 1st at École française de Saskatoon’s Conferences, and 1st at Saskatoon Christian’s Regionals, which secured our top rank heading into Provincials. Thanks to the effort, dedication, and desire of all the girls, coaches, and volunteers, the Warriors finished the season by bringing home an SHSAA ‘AA’ Provincial Champion title. This season was a testament to the strength of teamwork, commitment, and perseverance. The legacy of the 2024 Wakaw Warriors Volleyball team will inspire future players for years to come.
Senior B Girls Volleyball
Memories for a lifetime is what this volleyball team created for themselves. From the opening game until the last match, this team developed friendships and skills! Teammates motivated one another and had a set of fans who followed and cheered them on. The girls attended tournaments in Clavet, Annaheim, Tisdale, St. Brieux and Carrot River as well as hosted their own home tournament. The coaches are extremely proud of this team and all the effort and camaraderie they displayed. Every tournament they advanced into playoffs and came home with medals three times! Kayla (right side) led the team as captain, with Allison our setter stepping in as well. This dynamo duo added to our skill set. Our middles Allison and Amaya got some great kills and some awesome blocks in. Our left sides were: Anika, Emily, Kate and Zoe who learned how to hit down the line, cross court and stuff some tall power players. Dalayna was a dominant force in the libero position. Kate and Zoe also stepped in and played wherever they needed to. Ava Bender our other right side, dug the balls and had excellent court coverage. Coaches were Terry and Darla Oleksyn.
